A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has appointed Senator Mao Ohuabunwa as Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT).
The group also named Hon. Isah Dansidi as Secretary of the factional BoT, replacing Senator Adolphus Wabara and Senator Ahmed Makarfi, respectively.
The swearing-in ceremony was conducted in Abuja on Friday by the factional Acting National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed.
According to a communiqué issued after the event, the decision to replace Wabara and Makarfi was taken to safeguard the “neutrality, integrity, and moral authority” of the BoT, following their alleged public involvement in the party’s internal disputes.
The statement, jointly signed by Ohuabunwa and Dansidi, read in part:“
The Board noted that the immediate past BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, and Secretary, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, having publicly taken positions in the ongoing intra-party crisis, can no longer continue to serve in their previous capacities in order to preserve the neutrality, integrity, and moral authority of the BoT.”
It added that the Board unanimously approved the election of Ohuabunwa, from the South like his predecessor Wabara, and Dansidi, from the North like Makarfi, to maintain regional balance in its leadership.
The communiqué expressed appreciation to the outgoing officers for their service to the party and wished them success in future endeavours.
The factional BoT also commended party members and stakeholders for their resilience and continued faith in the PDP despite recent internal challenges. It urged all members to uphold unity, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to the party’s progress.
Reaffirming its dedication to reconciliation and internal democracy, the Board emphasized that peace and cooperation remain essential to the PDP’s stability and growth.“
The Board affirms that only through adherence to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999 as amended), the Electoral Act, INEC guidelines, and the party’s constitution can the PDP continue to serve as the true custodian of Nigeria’s democratic ideals,” the communiqué concluded.
