WAFCON:
Defending Champions, South Africa, Draw Lone Goal Against Tanzania
By Yadnom Awu/Asaba
Defending Champions, Bayana Bayana of South Africa, tonight, drew a goal apiece with Tanzania.
By the development, South Africa now has four points, having earned three points from their two- goal victory over Ghana in their first game.
Four points ,barring all unforeseen circumstances, could make them qualify for the quarter- final stage of the championship.
Tanzania, clear underdogs in the encounter, drew the first blood in the sixth minute of play when a header, off a lob into the South African 18 yard box, sailed into the net.
After the goal, Tanzania adopted a strategy that effectively soaked up the intense pressure mounted by the champions.
Without any more goals, the first half ended on a note of a lone goal in favour of the Dar Es Salam girls.
In the second half, the same trend continued until in the 70th minute when Tanzania succumbed to pressure and conceded to level scores at a goal apiece.
Thereafter, the game returned to its ding dong stretch, and even after a Tanzanian player was red carded in the 80th minute, nothing changed until the final whistle drew the curtain on the clash.
