Two Ex-Governors, Former Senate Chief Whip, Reps Members Lead ADC in Edo
BENIN CITY — The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has received a major boost in Edo State as two former governors, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun and Prof. Oserhiemen Osunbor, joined forces with other political heavyweights to reposition the party ahead of the August 16 by-elections and the 2027 general elections.
The high-level stakeholders meeting held at the Benin residence of Chief Oyegun brought together notable figures including former Senate Chief Whip, Sir Rowland Owie, Senator Ehigie Uzamere, and former House of Representatives member, Hon. Sergius Ogun, among others.
During the meeting, Chief Oyegun revealed that committees had been established to drive membership registration and mass mobilization, in collaboration with the existing ADC state executive. He emphasized that the party was offering a fresh alternative to the political status quo.
“This meeting is in accordance with the requirements of the national electoral authority. We are injecting fresh blood into the party without displacing those who have already served. Our focus is on effective and verifiable membership registration and strategic mobilization,” Oyegun stated.
Sir Rowland Owie, a founding member of the League of Democrats, announced that all members of the group had resolved to formally align with the ADC. “We have been meeting every Thursday for the past three months. Today, I confirm that every member of the League of Democrats has agreed to join the ADC,” he declared.
Prof. Osunbor described the meeting as a “clarion call” for all progressives to rally behind the party, stressing that the ADC is home to men and women of integrity who are committed to delivering transformative leadership in Nigeria.
The meeting also welcomed new groups defecting from other political parties, underscoring the growing momentum of the ADC in Edo State and beyond.
