American President, Donald Trump, this evening threatened to deploy force to disarm Hamas, in the event that it fails to do so voluntarily, as it has reportedly agreed.
Fielding questions from the mass media at the White House with the visiting President of Argentina, Javier Milei, Trump said he was confident that Hamas would abide by the terms of the piece deal between it and Israel.
He added that the disarmament would be within a reasonable time, but did not elaborate.
However, he warned that should Hamas fail to disarm voluntarily, it would be disarmed by violent means, though he did not say by who or which countries.
Trump’s threat came against the backdrop of the decision by the Israeli government to scale down the volume of aid into Gaza, citing what it says was the slow pace of the release of dead hostages by Hamas .
Hamas has so far released only four of the about 30 bodies of hostages thought to be in its custody .
It is promising to release four more bodies tomorrow.
Following the development , Israel announced that, with effect from tomorrow, it would allow in only 300 trucks of humanitarian supplies into Gaza, down from the daily minimum of 600 trucks agreed under the peace deal.
Officials say that an average of 500 trucks had been getting into the enclave since the peace deal came into effect at the weekend.
On Sunday, the United Nations (UN) reported that 800 trucks, the single largest daily delivery in recent times, entered the enclave with supplies.
