TINUBU ENDS EMERGENCY RULE IN RIVERS TODAY
…….FUBARA RETURN AS GOVERNOR
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the end of the state of emergency in Rivers State, effective midnight, 17th September 2025.
The President explained that the proclamation, declared on 18th March 2025 under Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution, became necessary following a total breakdown of governance between the Executive and Legislature in the State. With intelligence reports now indicating a renewed spirit of reconciliation and readiness among stakeholders to resume democratic governance, the President said there was no need to extend the emergency rule beyond six months.
From 18th September 2025, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Nma Odu, and the members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, will resume their constitutional duties in full.
President Tinubu urged all Governors and State Assemblies nationwide to uphold peace, order, and cooperation in order to deliver the dividends of democracy to Nigerians.
