This might be a paradox, but my mind tells me that Professor Amupitan might be the right man for this job, going by his pedigree. An evidently apolitical man of integrity has been nominated, notwithstanding his ethnicity.
Professor Amupitan is a better pick than a malleable crook, even if the crook is my kinsman. The only thing the President may have ensured is that he did not, with his own hands, pick a crook who will turn round to stab him in the back.
Even though it is true that we live in a world where nothing stays the same, but all those who know Professor Amupitan testify that he will also not stab the opposition in the back! Honestly, a man of Professor Amupitan’s mettle is not the kind of pick I was fearing the “master strategist” was going to make; the most malleable pick would have been a retired judge or policeman, with a dirt-filled dossier, and consequently easy to blackmail.
My optimism notwithstanding, the first critical test will be how receptive the Professor would be to the incorporation of fail proof anti fraud and anti-rigging electronic reforms into our election management regime. Acceptation of technology driven reforms would boost public confidence and ensure that electoral outcomes reflect accurately the choices made by the electorate, and not the mere machinations of conniving officialdom!
I hope the “master strategist” thought this choice through, “strategically”!
