Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, says Nigeria’s senior men’s football team is more determined than ever to lift a fourth Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title when the continental showpiece kicks off in Morocco 2025.
Nigeria fell 2–1 to hosts Côte d’Ivoire in the final of the last edition, but Troost-Ekong believes that painful defeat has made the squad stronger and more mature.
“That’s the only goal,” the PAOK Salonika defender told CAFonline. “We learned so much from the last AFCON final. Looking back, Côte d’Ivoire were the better team on the day, but we gained experience—some of our players were in a first major final for their nation.”
According to the Super Eagles skipper, the team’s focus is now fixed on using that experience to go all the way in Morocco.
“Now the target is to get there again, use that experience, reach the latter stages and know what to do to go all the way, hopefully,” he said.
The three-time African champions have been drawn in Group C alongside Uganda, Tunisia and Tanzania as they begin their quest for another continental triumph.
