Alexis Ohanian, tech entrepreneur and co-founder of Reddit, has purchased a stake in Chelsea FC Women, further deepening his investment in women’s sports.
Ohanian, who is married to tennis icon Serena Williams, announced the move on social media platform X, revealing he has acquired a 10% stake in the reigning English champions, an investment reportedly valued at around £20 million ($27 million).
“I’ve bet big on women’s sports before and I’m doing it again,” Ohanian wrote. “I’m proud to announce that I’m joining Chelsea FCW as an investor and board member. I’m honoured for the chance to help this iconic club become America’s favourite Barclays WSL team, and much more.”
The 42-year-old has a history of supporting women’s sports, previously investing in U.S.-based Angel City FC and other women’s athletic ventures.
Ohanian joins Chelsea Women at a historic moment. The club recently clinched its sixth consecutive Barclays Women’s Super League title, going unbeaten through the entire 22-match season. They also secured the League Cup and are chasing a domestic treble as they prepare to face Manchester United in the FA Cup final on Sunday.
