Scandal Rocks Delta Polytechnic, Ogwasi-Uku
….. Council, Management fights Dirty

This situation at Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku has now clearly transcended internal institutional wrangling—it has evolved into a full-blown public crisis with political, communal, and administrative implications, yet the Delta State Government remains conspicuously silent. Here’s a clear breakdown and analysis:

—

⚖️ Key Issues at Stake

1. Power Tussle at the Top

Paul Adingwupu, Chairman of the Governing Council, is accused of acting as a Sole Administrator, bypassing both the Rector and proper council processes.

The suspension of Registrar Dr. Jude Okocha and other senior staff, reportedly without due process, has added fuel to the fire.

There are allegations that Adingwupu is weaponizing internal documents for political or personal vendettas.

2. Youth Group Fragmentation

Two major youth groups have emerged:

Concerned Youths of Ogwashi-Uku, led by Comrade Humble Ochei, calling for Adingwupu’s removal.

Ogwashi Uku Youth Development Association, led by Comrade Stanley Chinedu, defending Adingwupu and dismissing the protest as politically motivated.

This division among youth factions could further escalate tensions within the community and the school.

3. Media Warfare and Reputation Damage

Both camps are now battling for dominance in the media space, issuing conflicting statements and lobbying public sentiment.

The polytechnic’s reputation is suffering, and the integrity of its certificates and governance structure is now under public scrutiny.

—

🤐 Delta State Government’s Silence

It’s telling—and troubling—that the state government has yet to issue a definitive statement or take clear action, despite:

Allegations of certificate racketeering,

Apparent breakdown of administrative order, and

Rising communal tensions in Ogwashi-Uku.

This prolonged silence:

Erodes public confidence in the government’s ability to manage educational institutions.

Gives room for further manipulation and misinformation.

Stokes unrest, especially if stakeholders start taking matters into their own hands.

—

🧭 Where Do Things Go From Here?

✅ Recommendations:

1. Immediate Intervention by Delta State Government:

A neutral investigative panel should be commissioned to audit the actions of all parties.

Temporarily suspend both sides (Council Chair, Rector, Registrar) if necessary, pending investigation.

2. Reaffirming Institutional Autonomy and Due Process:

Reinforce that governing councils are not monarchies. Every disciplinary or administrative action must follow Council resolutions, not unilateral moves.

3. Community Dialogue & Peacebuilding:

Call a townhall meeting involving all youth factions, traditional rulers, and school leadership to calm the rising tension.

4. Transparent Reporting to the Public:

The Governor’s office should issue an interim report and set a deadline for full resolution to restore public trust.

—

❓ The Real Question

> Is the Delta State Government waiting for this crisis to explode before acting? Or is there internal political interference delaying intervention?

Until the government steps in decisively and publicly, the ugly spectacle at Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku will continue to damage the institution, divide the community, and compromise education standards.
