A retired judge, Justice Ifeoma Okogwu, has been brutally murdered under disturbing and unclear circumstances at her residence in Asaba, Delta State.
The incident occurred on Sunday night at her home located behind The Pointer Newspapers. Her death was discovered the following morning.
Confirming the tragedy, her brother, Ogbueshi Godfrey Okogwu, said:
“My eldest sister was murdered in her house on Sunday night. We only received the news on Monday morning, so we presume it happened during the night.”
A key twist in the case is the disappearance of the night security guard assigned to the premises. According to the family, the morning guard arrived to find the gate wide open—an unusual and troubling detail.
“He said he simply sat there. Sat there doing what? I do not know. I do not understand this situation at all,” the victim’s brother said, expressing shock at the guards’ conduct. The family has already provided the police with the information and identity of the private security company responsible for the guards.
Police operatives have arrested the morning security guard and invited the owner of the security company for questioning, though it is unclear whether the individual has responded to the summons.
Describing the horrific scene, Okogwu revealed that the retired judge’s hands, legs, and face were tightly bound, and her home was completely ransacked.
“Only God knows what happened. We won’t know anything definite until the police complete their investigation,” he added.
A message sent to the spokesperson of the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, seeking confirmation had not been answered as of the time of filing this report.
