The Presidency has dismissed reports circulating in some media outlets claiming that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will travel to the United States on Tuesday for a meeting with U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Temitope Ajayi, described the report as false and misleading.
Ajayi, in a post shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, said the claim originated from Sahara Reporters and urged the public to disregard it.
“There’s a Sahara Reporters story that President Tinubu is going to the U.S. on Tuesday to see U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance. That story is not true,” Ajayi stated.
“I can see that the fake news by Sahara has become the basis for some uninformed commentaries since yesterday. If President Tinubu is going to the White House, he won’t be going to see a Vice President.”
Ajayi emphasized that should the President visit the White House, the engagement would be with U.S. President Donald Trump, not his deputy.
It will be recalled that the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Mr. Daniel Bwala, had earlier disclosed that both Presidents Tinubu and Trump share common interests in the global fight against insurgency and terrorism.
Bwala noted on X that both leaders have maintained strong ties in addressing security threats and are expected to hold discussions either in Abuja or Washington D.C. in the coming days.
“Both President BAT and President Donald Trump have shared interest in the fight against insurgency and all forms of terrorism against humanity,” Bwala wrote.
“President Trump has assisted Nigeria a lot by authorizing the sale of arms to Nigeria, and President Tinubu has adequately utilized the opportunity in the fight against terrorism, for which we have massive results to show.”
“As for the differences as to whether terrorists target only Christians, or in fact all faiths and no faiths, the difference, if they exist, would be discussed and resolved by the two leaders when they meet in the coming days, in the State House or White House.”
