The Metropolitan Police have confirmed two fatalities in the car plough and stabbing attack at a Synagogue in Crumpsall, Greater Manchester.
They gave no clues regarding the identities of the fatal victims of the attacker who was later felled by police gunfire.
Three other victims were said to be in critical medical condition at press time.
Witnesses said they later heard loud, apparently controlled explosions, implying that the attacker may have strapped explosives to himself.
The Prime Minister of Britain Sir Keir Starmer, who was in Copenhagen for a meeting , cut short his trip and described the incident as appalling..
He also added additional security presence at Synagogues across the country.
King Charles spoke in similar condemnatory terms, while the Mayor of Manchester City, Andy Brauham, had expressed shock at the tragic event.
The attack came against the holiday for the Jewish traditional festival of Yom Kippur.
