Pro-democracy and civil rights advocacy group: HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (HURIWA) has condemned the massacre of citizens in Bokkos, Plateau state describing it as a coordinated genocide against the unsuspecting people.
HURIWA in a statement in Abuja expressed condolences and solidarity with Governor of Plateau State Caleb Mutfwang who earlier alerted that the incessant bloody attacks by suspected “armed herders are coordinated acts of GENOCIDE against the native people of Plateau state”.
Besides, HURIWA through its national coordinator Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko reminded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of his primary constitutional duty to provide security to the lives and property of citizens.
The Rights group recalled that since the heavy Christmas Eve 2023 attacks on many Plateau communities in which over 150 Plateau natives were gruesomely slaughtered by suspected armed herders, the security forces have failed to arrest the masterminds of the heinous crime.
HURIWA is therefore advocating that rather than shout just like a mere observer, the president of Nigeria who has all the powers to command armed security forces should mandate the relevant commanders to go after the sponsors and the killers within a given timeline.
Should the security operatives fail to live up to their billings, the president should use his big stick.
A worried Governor Mutfwang, has however restated his commitment to fighting insecurity, saying “the Plateau spirit of peace, unity, and hospitality remains unbroken”.
