PDP Crisis: I Stand by South East, NWC, BOT on NEC, National Secretary — Governor Mbah
…warns zone may reconsider ties with PDP if demands are ignored
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has declared unwavering support for the positions of the National Working Committee (NWC), the Board of Trustees (BOT), and the South East Zonal Executive Committee (ZEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) amid the escalating internal crisis rocking the party.
Addressing journalists in Enugu on Sunday after a high-level closed-door meeting with key PDP stakeholders, including Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, BOT Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara, and South East Zonal Chairman Chief Ali Odefa, Mbah emphasized that the position of the South East regarding the National Secretaryship of the party is “sacrosanct.”
He further voiced frustration with what he described as persistent internal wranglings that have turned the PDP into an “endless circus,” adding that while he remains a member of the party, the South East zone “reserves the right to review its future” in the PDP if its concerns continue to be ignored.
> “For the record, just as I stated during my interactive session with the Nigerian Guild of Editors over the weekend, the South East — and that includes me — reserves the right to review our continued membership of the party if the party is unwilling to put its house in order,” Mbah said.
He reaffirmed support for the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Monday, June 30, 2025, stressing that decisions regarding the party’s leadership must reflect equity and inclusiveness.
> “That was the position adopted during our last South East zonal meeting held here in Enugu. The caucus clearly stated that the PDP must respect the zone’s stance on the National Secretary position. That has not happened — so there should be no doubt as to where I stand,” the governor added.
The crisis within the PDP deepened following the controversial handling of the National Secretary position, which the South East contends rightly belongs to the zone.
Also present at the crucial Enugu meeting were several party stalwarts, including former PDP National Chairman and BOT member Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, Senator Sam Egwu, Iyom Josephine Anenih, Senator Ben Obi, and Hon. Udeh-Okoye, among others.
