A total of 573 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sabuwar Dan Masara, Dutse, Jigawa State, have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing worsening economic conditions under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“We can no longer continue to be part of a party that has abandoned the principles of fairness and justice,” said Mustapha Adamu (Shugaba), leader of the defectors. He stressed their belief that the PDP is better positioned to tackle Nigeria’s current challenges.
During Friday’s defection ceremony, Shugaba added: “We are excited to join a party that is dedicated to building a better Nigeria for all its citizens,” and urged others in the APC to consider making the switch.
Welcoming the defectors, PDP’s deputy chairman in Jigawa, Umar Danjani, hailed the move as a major boost for the party. “Today marks a significant milestone in our journey towards building a stronger, more united party,” he said.
Danjani reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to development and inclusivity. “Our party is dedicated to addressing the challenges facing our state and country, and we believe that together, we can achieve great things,” he added.
