One person has been confirmed dead while six others sustained varying degrees of injuries following a stampede at the residence of the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Bello Mohammed Matawalle, in Gusau, Zamfara State.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening as a large crowd trooped to the Minister’s home to welcome him during a planned visit to the state.
According to counter-insurgency analyst, Zagazola Makama, who disclosed the development on X, the stampede happened at about 7:30 pm when the crowd surged uncontrollably.
Those affected were immediately evacuated to Farida General Hospital. A 23-year-old male, Khalifa Uzairu, was confirmed dead on arrival, while the injured—identified as Ayuba Sani, Muhammadu Adams, Aliyu Aminu, Sha’aban Hamisu, and Inusa Musa Shehu—are currently receiving medical attention.
