Olofu Raises Alarm Over Renewed Herdsmen Attacks in Benue South, Urges Federal Action
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The  2027  Benue South Senatorial district of Benue state hopeful Dr. David Olofu, has called on the Federal Government to take decisive and urgent steps to curb the recurrent attacks by suspected herdsmen in parts of the senatorial district, which have continued to claim lives and displace entire communities.

In a statement he  personally signed  yesterday, Dr. Olofu expressed deep concern over what he described as the “persistent and unprovoked assaults” on communities in Ohimini and Ado Local Government Areas of the State.

He particularly mentioned the recent attacks on Anwule-Oglewu and Rijo communities, which left several people dead and property worth millions destroyed.

Olofu, who is contesting the Benue South Senatorial seat under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2027  election, lamented that the renewed wave of violence has left many communities in despair and fear.

He lamented : “These unbridled attacks by murderous herdsmen have turned our communities into perpetual targets.

“The situation is unacceptable and must be stopped by the Federal Government. Those responsible for internal security must rise to the challenge and stem this hydra-headed monster.”

The former Commissioner for Finance in Benue State accused the government at various levels of treating the crisis with levity, saying their response has not inspired confidence among citizens who continue to live under the shadow of insecurity.

Dr. Olofu also advocated for community-led security initiatives, urging youths and able-bodied men to form vigilante groups to protect their localities where state security agencies have failed to provide adequate protection.

Olofu added , “Security is every man’s business and should no longer be left to the government alone.

“As it stands, our people are left with no option but to take their destinies into their own hands “.

While commiserating with the victims of the recent attacks, Olofu described the killings and destruction as a “carefully orchestrated carnage” aimed at displacing indigenous populations.

He urged the Federal Government to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure lasting peace in the region.

He further appealed to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide immediate relief materials to those affected, noting that many victims have been rendered homeless and destitute.

As Benue South continues to grapple with insecurity, Olofu’s passionate call adds to the growing voices demanding a robust and sustainable response from the Federal Government to protect vulnerable rural communities.
