Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening security across the State, while inaugurating two key officials: Dr. Mrs. Minnie Oseji as the new Head of Service (HoS), and Pastor Austine Igbine as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Delta Printing and Publishing Company Limited (DPPCL), publishers of The Pointer newspapers.
Dr. Oseji succeeds Mr. Reginald Bayoko, who recently retired, while Pastor Igbine takes over from Dr. Ebenezer Okorodudu, now serving as Executive Director of Projects at the Delta State Oil-Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC).
Speaking at the ceremony held at Government House, Asaba, Governor Oborevwori praised the efforts of security agencies in combating kidnapping and other crimes through proactive measures. He acknowledged ongoing challenges but expressed confidence in overcoming them, highlighting continued government support through resource provision.
“As the Chief Security Officer of the state, I am aware of the many successes our security agencies have achieved. While we may not disclose operational strategies publicly, rest assured our agencies are working relentlessly,” the governor stated.
He called on citizens to play an active role in ensuring peace and safety, stressing that “security is a shared responsibility,” and encouraged the public to report suspicious activity to authorities.
On the civil service, Oborevwori commended the outgoing HoS, Mr. Bayoko, for his service, and described Dr. Oseji as a model civil servant—dedicated, principled, and experienced. He charged her with tackling long-standing issues such as absenteeism, unethical conduct, and poor maintenance culture.
“This administration is committed to building a disciplined and performance-driven civil service,” he said, urging civil servants to align with government policies and prioritize public interest over personal gain.
Congratulating Pastor Igbine, the governor expressed hopes for The Pointer to reach new heights in editorial quality, circulation, and digital transformation under his leadership.
In her response, Dr. Oseji expressed gratitude for the appointment and pledged to uphold integrity, professionalism, and align the civil service with the Governor’s MORE Agenda. She assured inclusivity and commitment to reorienting the service around transparency and best practices.
