The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has challenged the Federal Government to publish the full list of Nigerians who allegedly benefited from the ₦330 billion disbursed under the National Cash Transfer Programme.
The demand follows official claims that millions have been lifted out of poverty through social safety-net schemes coordinated by the National Social Safety-net Coordinating Office (NASSCO).
Speaking in Abuja, the NLC’s Acting General Secretary, Comrade Benson Upah, questioned the transparency of the programme, insisting that government pronouncements must be backed with verifiable evidence.
> “They should let them line up. In advanced economies, when you say you’ve created social jobs, you show the jobs. You don’t just make claims in the media without proof. We want to see the actual beneficiaries,” Upah said.
He warned against what he described as “banditry with statistics,” accusing government agencies of rolling out unverifiable poverty-alleviation figures.
> “When you say you have lifted millions out of poverty, where are they? Where are those who received the money? Publish the recipients,” he stressed.
Upah argued that making the list public would help restore public confidence in the government’s anti-poverty programmes. He noted that many Nigerians remain unconvinced about the scheme’s impact, especially as inflation and the rising cost of living continue to erode household incomes.
