The Nigeria Police Force has arrested and repatriated Acar Huseyin, a 61-year-old Turkish national who fled his country after being convicted of fraud.
The operation was carried out by the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja, in close cooperation with international partners.
Huseyin was sentenced earlier this year by the Istanbul Anadolu High Criminal Court to 14 years, 8 months, and 10 days in prison. He fled Turkey shortly after the verdict and travelled through the Middle East before entering Nigeria in an attempt to escape serving his sentence.
In July 2025, INTERPOL NCB Ankara issued a Red Notice, alerting member countries to locate and arrest him. Acting on the notice, INTERPOL NCB Abuja began a quiet, intelligence-led operation that led to his arrest in the capital.
After completing all required procedures, Nigerian authorities handed Huseyin over to Turkish officials and repatriated him to Istanbul, where he will begin his sentence.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the INTERPOL unit for its work and stressed that Nigeria would not serve as a hiding place for fugitives.
He reaffirmed the Police Force’s commitment to international cooperation and joint efforts to tackle transnational crime.
The statement was released by CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, Force Public Relations Officer, from Force Headquarters, Abuja.
