The National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) and the Parliament of Malaysia have exchanged ideas on strengthening parliamentary administration through institutional collaboration and knowledge sharing.
The Executive Chairman of NASC, Chief Saviour Enyiekere, led a high-powered delegation to the Malaysian Parliament in Kuala Lumpur as part of efforts to benchmark international best practices and improve service delivery within Nigeria’s legislative bureaucracy.
Speaking during the engagement, Enyiekere said exposure to global standards would enhance staff capacity and strengthen the institutional framework of Nigeria’s National Assembly. He also commended the Malaysian Parliament for its warm reception and noted the strong bilateral relations between both countries.
The Malaysian Parliament, represented by Amisyahrizan bin Amir Khan on behalf of the Chief Administrator, Dato Ahmad Hussaini bin Abdul Rahman, welcomed the delegation and described the visit as a boost to inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two Commonwealth nations.
Technical sessions revealed similarities in legislative manpower management, including Malaysia’s recent establishment of a Parliamentary Service Board, akin to Nigeria’s NASC. The delegation also understudied Malaysia’s advanced retirement preparation policy for parliamentary staff.
Both institutions agreed to explore future collaboration through staff exchanges, training programmes, and administrative cooperation. The visit was facilitated by the Nigerian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur.
