The Nigerian Correctional Service has confirmed a jailbreak at the Keffi Custodial Centre in the early hours of Tuesday, August 12, 2025, leaving five officers injured.
According to a statement by Service Public Relations Officer Umar Abubakar, the injured personnel are receiving urgent treatment at a government health facility. Seven of the escaped inmates have already been recaptured and returned to custody.
Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Nwakuche, has ordered a full investigation into the incident and launched a coordinated manhunt with sister security agencies to track down the remaining fugitives.
The public is urged to remain calm, vigilant, and to immediately report any suspicious movements or sightings of the fleeing inmates to the nearest security post.
