Former Bayelsa state governor Senator Seriake Dickson has taken a swipe at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s attitude to democracy in Nigeria.
He said Mr President’s actions and utterances do not represent or manifest him as a democrat.
Rather, Dickson remarked that Tinubu is trampling and subverting on Democracy.
Dickson while reacting to Tinubu’s speech at the joint session of the National Assembly, stated that the president is less than honest in his position on Democracy.
He said Mr President cannot honestly be preaching and claiming to be a democrat when he has officially sanctioned military rule in Rivers state.
According to Dickson “Mr President missed a golden opportunity to restore all institutions of Democracy in Rivers state today. You cannot be claiming to be a democrat when under your instructions and leadership, Rivers state, a component part of Nigeria is under military rule”.
He therefore urged Mr President to prove his democratic credentials by restoring democracy in Rivers state.
Mr President had declared a state of emergency in Rivers state on account of alleged breach of peace and appointed a military administrator to run the affairs of the state.
The state governor Sim Fubara, his commissioners and members of the state House of Assembly have been sent on suspension.
