Renowned Nigerian Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as Kwam1, has publicly criticized his senior colleague and mentor, Ayinla Kollington, for failing to offer support or condolences following the passing of his mother.
Kwam1’s mother passed away on January 18, 2025, and was buried on the same day in accordance with Islamic traditions. However, during an interview with On Air Personality Bamidele Adeyanju on Agbaletu Radio, Kwam1 expressed his frustration and disappointment with Kollington’s lack of empathy.
Recounting how he supported Kollington when the latter lost his mother, Kwam1 revealed that he took on all the financial responsibilities, ensuring that the burial was well-organized, and even brought dignitaries, including governors, to the event. He described his actions as a show of loyalty and friendship.
But Kwam1’s feelings of betrayal surfaced when Kollington failed to reach out after his own mother’s death. According to Kwam1, the only excuse Kollington gave was that he called but couldn’t get through when Kwam1 didn’t pick up the phone.
“I’m very angry with Alhaji Kollington for not reaching out or offering condolences when I lost my mother. I joined hands with him to bury his own mother. I supported him to give her a befitting burial. I handled all the finances 100%. See how he paid me back,” Kwam1 said, his voice filled with disappointment. “What could have happened after everything I did for him? He was in Nigeria, healthy and well when my mom passed, and yet, all he could say was that he called and I didn’t pick. Am I not supposed to be angry?”
The emotional outburst highlights the deep sense of hurt Kwam1 feels over what he perceives as an ungrateful response from someone he considered a mentor and close friend.
