Uromi, Edo State – July 19, 2025
Hon. Sergius Osasojie Oguns has emerged as the senatorial candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the forthcoming Edo Central senatorial by-election scheduled for August 2025. The vacancy follows the resignation of Senator Monday Okpebholo, who has since been sworn in as the Executive Governor of Edo State.
Oguns, a former two-term member of the House of Representatives representing Esan South-East Federal Constituency, was declared the winner of the ADC primary election held in Uromi, Edo State. The primary, monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), saw Oguns returned unopposed.
In his acceptance speech, Hon. Oguns highlighted his achievements while in the House of Representatives, stating he executed over 90 constituency projects, sponsored approximately 60 bills, and promoted education through regular free distribution of books to schools across Esan South-East.
He assured party members and constituents of his unwavering commitment to effective representation, promising to bring greater development to Edo Central if elected into the Senate.
A key party figure and former Governor of Edo State, Prof. Osaremen Osunbor, lauded the choice of Oguns as the party’s flagbearer. He expressed confidence in Oguns’ capacity to deliver, urging all party members to intensify grassroots mobilization given the limited time available for campaign activities.
“The party has made a sound choice,” Osunbor noted. “Hon. Oguns has the experience, credibility, and track record to serve the people of Edo Central excellently. Now is the time for action—we must hit the ground running to ensure victory at the polls.”
