FUPRE VC Dismisses PENGASSAN Allegations, Cites Court Ruling, Legal Provisions
The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE) in Delta state ,Prof. Ezekiel O. Agbalagba, has refuted claims by PENGASSAN accusing the institution of intimidation and arbitrary decisions.
He clarified that a 2022 National Industrial Court judgment had already ruled against PENGASSAN’s right to unionize senior staff at FUPRE.
Agbalagba emphasized that while FUPRE aligns its conditions of service with those in the oil and gas sector, this does not equate to automatic recognition of the union. He also revealed that PENGASSAN has filed a new suit, which is currently before the court, urging all parties to respect ongoing judicial proceedings.
Reaffirming FUPRE’s commitment to legality and due process, the VC stated the university would continue to uphold industrial harmony in line with statutory mandates.
