Japanese Mark 80th Anniversary of WW11 Surrender
Japanese have held events marking the 80th anniversary of the surrender of the country during the Second World War (WW 11).
The events were held in the capital, Tokyo, and attracted the echelon of the political and traditional leadership of the country .
Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and the Emperor, Naruhito, personally attended the events which also attracted a few survivors of the American Atomic Bombing of the country in 1945.
The bombing targeted the cities of Nagasaki and Hiroshima, and caused hundreds of thousands of casualties, including tens of thousands of fatalities.
The dropping of the bomb and their horrible effects led to the surrender of Japan to America and the end of the war in the Pacific axis.
Western countries, including Britain, are holding events today to mark the day which have been dubbed VJ Day.
In Britain, both King Charles and Queen Carmela, are scheduled to attend the ceremonies later today.

46 Die, 200 Missing In Indian Floods
More than 46 persons have been confirmed dead in fresh flash floods that have swept through the Himalayan foothills of India.
Some 200 others remain unaccounted for at press time
Locals say the floods were triggered by the massive rains of the past few days as the annual Monsoon season kicks in.
The development comes strong on the heels of a recent incident of mass flooding that swept through the country , especially around the Himalayan foothills.
India, like Pakistan, its nuclear neighbour, is unusually prone to flooding because of its peculiar location at the foot of the Himalayas Mountain and at the epicentre of the Monsoon- impact areas.

Finance Minister, Smotrich, Unfolds Goal Of Israeli “s Illegal Settlements
The government of Israel has unfolded the ultimate aim of its mass illegal settlements plan .
The plan envisages the construction of settlements regarded ax illegal in international law to accommodate Israeli citizens on Palestinian land.
The Finance Minister, Smotrich, unfolded the plan in Tel Aviv capital of Israel, saying it was to kill the prospect of a future Palestinian state.
Israel, under the plan, recently announced the approval for the construction of 1,401 new settlements in the land East Jerusalem and the occupied West Bank
The plan, if implemented, would not only raise the number of such illegal settlements, but also .split the West Bank in two and break the land link between it and Gaza.
Both the United Nations, UN,the European Union, EU, and other credible interests have strongly condemned the announcemt, warning Israel that it is a breach of international law.
The move of Israel omes against the backdrop of the announced plan of both France, Britain, Canada, Portugal and Australia to formally recognize the state of Palestine as an independent country at the upcoming session of the United Nations General Assembly, UNGA, in September
More than 140 countries have recognized Palestine as a state.

All Set for Trump ,Putin Summit In Alaska
Global attention is turning to America,’s historic town of Alaska as preparations ramp up for the historic summit of President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Viktor Putin . The summit falls due later today.
The meeting is the first direct one between both men since their 2018 direct contact in Helsinki.
The summit is due to start by 11.30 local time ( 9.30 PM Nigerian time) at a military base at the Anchorage in the cold Alaska that was sold to America in 1867 by Russia leader, Alexander, for $7,200 ( about N1.4billion,)
Top of the agenda is the grinding war Russia is fighting with Ukraine, which Trump says he wants to end.
There are also expected to be discussions on nuclear weapons control and trade between both countries.
Both countries are the biggest nuclear weapons states on Earth, jointly holdibg, by estimation, more than 75 per cent of the total global stock of the dreaded weapon.
Russia alone accounts for more than half of the global tally of the weapon.
The summit has been segmented into three sections.
The first would involve just the two leaders and their personal interpreters, the second, the leaders and five each of their officials, and the third and last segment, a joint press conference by the two
Critics say that Ukraine President, Wladimyr Zelensky, ought to attend, though Trump had explained that a trilateral summit of the three could hold soon afterwards.

Mai Govt Arrests Generals, Others Over Alleged Coup Plot
The Government of Mali has officially confirmed the arrest of several persons, including military Generals, allegedly in connection with a coup plot.
Bamako did not give much details but said that some Generals and a French national were arrested following an alleged coup attempt.
The announcement followed tensions in the country after the government outlawed parties and entrenched military rule in the country.
