Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has taken ill and will not attend the 2025 Annual Meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) scheduled to open on Monday, October 13, in Washington, D.C.
In his absence, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, will lead the Nigerian delegation to the global financial gathering.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by the Presidential spokesman, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.
Cardoso, who serves as Nigeria’s alternate governor at the Bretton Woods institutions, will be accompanied by the Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, and other senior government officials.
According to the World Bank, highlights of the Annual Meetings include the Development Committee Plenary on October 16 and the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC) meeting on October 17.
The week-long event will also feature regional briefings, press conferences, and forums focused on international development, global economic trends, and financial market stability.
