Fatigue, Over speeding Caused Kano Athletes Road Mishap – FRSC

By Yadnom Awu/ Asaba

The combined effects of fatigue and over speeding led to Saturday’s fatal crash involving athletes of Kano State to the recent National Sports Festival, NSF, the Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC, has claimed.
The FRSC, engagers of Nigeria’ s road angels, said in a statement by its spokesperson, Olusegun Ogungbemide, that 21:persons, all males, died in the accident which occurred at Gadar Yankifii on the Kano / Kaduna highway.

The FRSC image maker said that the Coaster bus , with number plate KN O41 A17, veered off the road due to driver fatigue and over speeding.
The bus had 24 occupants, comprising 23 makes and a female who survived with two males.
All survivors are undergoing treatment at an unnamed hospital.

One of the dead was identified as Imam Umar Fagge, a football referee and junior brother of Umar Fagge, the Acting Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission.
The dead, according to Ogungbemide, include journalists, wrestlers, kickboxers, two drivers, medical doctors, referees and the image maker of the state sports commission.
Meanwhile President Bola Tinubu has , in a statement , described the accident as a devastating blow to the nation.
He added that the tragedy cast a dark shadow on the NSF, which, he said, remained a celebration of unity, talent and excellence
