A public affairs commentator and philanthropist , Mr. Lucky Ehiwuogwu Monye, has urged Nigerians to extend their love and benevolence towards their compatriots beyond festive periods, especially the Yuletide.
He said that sustainable benevolence remained a critical tool for building humanity and sustaining the stability of human society.
Monye, the Managing Director of Monaco Ventures Nigeria Limited, a frontline private security firm and founder, Lucky Ehiwuogwu Monye Foundation, said in a statement to mark the Yuletide, that it was gratifying to observe that many Nigerians, especially the materially well -to -do, had been unusually supportive of their compatriots, especially the less- privileged during the current Yuletide.
According to him, the outpouring of love among Nigerians during festivities, particularly the Yuletide, was a strong evidence of the resilience of the traditional African values of communalism and hospitality.
However, he said that such great disposition should not be restricted to festivities.
The chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC )in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State said that sustaining such great virtues of love, benevolence and hospitality would not only impair the incidence of hunger and poverty among the population, but could help check some crimes that are linked to hunger and deprivation.
This is because, in his view, a hungry man is more prone to crime than one who is not, all things being equal.
Besides, he said it is quite difficult for any reasonable person to harm his benefactor.
Monye recalled the ebbing traditional African extended family system which was a strategic tool for cohesion and community, stressing that it remained as relevant today as it was in the days of our forebears, hence it should be sustained.
He wished Nigerians a memorable Yuletide and truly fulfilling 2026.
