I received the news of the death of Sen. Solomon Ewuga yesterday in total shock and grief. Senator Ewuga was a distinguished Nigerian of vast achievements; former Senator, former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State as well as former Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). He was a politician and a lawyer. But he was my friend, more like a senior brother to me. Ever since I met the jolly and flamboyant, but highly friendly Solomon on the campus of University of Ibadan, he had become an elder brother of a sort. And like one, he had been one that always looked after my welfare. He’s particularly agonized that I have ‘refused’ to move out of Jos since my return from exile.
As usual, he was one of the first person to phone to commend me on the release of my latest book, saying his in-law Eugene will pick his copy! That was some weeks ago, but I haven’t heard from him nor Eugene since but simply assumed it was a mere scheduling matter. In fact, on his instruction I have also been representing him at a number of events in Jos. I had no idea he faced any health challenge until I heard of his demise. But death is a certain end of all living creatures. It’s the Will of God and it is upon His appointed time. May his soul rest in His bosom.
May God Almighty also comfort his family, friends, associates and all who mourn brother Solomon Ewuga. I join in thanking God for his life well lived.
Adieu Sir.
