El-Rufai Accused as Thugs Fire Shots, Disrupt Coalition Meeting in Kaduna – Police
The Kaduna State Police Command has accused former governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, of sponsoring political thugs who opened fire and disrupted a coalition meeting of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna.
The meeting, held at the NUT Endwell Conference Hall in Magadishu Layout, descended into chaos when suspected government-backed thugs stormed the venue, firing sporadic gunshots and injuring participants.
In a strongly worded statement on Saturday, the Command’s spokesman, DSP Mansir Hassan, said preliminary investigations confirmed that “political gangsters attached to the former Governor” were behind the disruption.
> “Findings indicate that the gathering led to a clash, during which thugs loyal to the former Governor allegedly fired gunshots, causing chaos and breakdown of public order,” the police declared.
The Command vowed that no individual, “no matter how highly placed,” would be shielded from justice.
Meanwhile, the ADC leadership has denied any connection to the meeting, insisting they had no knowledge of it and distancing themselves from El-Rufai’s alleged political activities.
The police have also placed hotels and event centres under watch, warning that they would be held liable for hosting political meetings without clearance from security agencies.
To forestall further breakdown of law and order, the Kaduna Police Command announced the immediate suspension of all unauthorised political gatherings in the state.
