The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed a three-count charge against Ezekiel Onyedikachuwu Thankgod, widely known as Eezee Global, over the alleged misappropriation of $443,371 belonging to gospel artists Mercy Chinwo and Judith Kanayo (popularly known as Judikay).
Thankgod, who formerly managed Chinwo and served as the head of Eezee Global Concepts Limited, is facing prosecution alongside his company before the Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos.
The case, filed under suit number ID/25810c/25, is being handled by EFCC prosecutors Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), Bilikisu Buhari-Bala, and Sulaiman I. Sulaiman.
According to the charges, the defendant allegedly converted to personal use three separate sums—$112,985, $260,494, and $69,892—in 2023, totaling $443,371. The EFCC maintains these amounts were the property of Mercy Chinwo and Judikay.
The alleged offences contravene Sections 280(1)(a) and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. A date for the arraignment is yet to be announced.
The case emerges amid lingering tensions surrounding the gospel label. Recently, Nancy Nnadi (popularly known as Coach Nancy), Managing Director of EeZee Conceptz Limited, publicly retracted defamatory statements she made against Mercy Chinwo.
Her retraction followed a defamation lawsuit filed by Chinwo through her legal team at Law Corridor, led by Managing Partner Pelumi Olajengbesi. The suit demanded a public apology, removal of defamatory content, and compensation for reputational damage stemming from social media allegations that Chinwo diverted funds amid a contractual dispute involving EeZee Conceptz and its founder, EeZee Tee.
