…….Passes Bill for a Law to Establish the Edo State Parks and Gardens Agency.
Edo State House of Assembly(EDHA), on resumption of plenary, has adopted a resolution calling on the National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to desist from allegedly imposing a Caretaker Committee on the Edo State Council of the union.
This followed a motion to that effect moved by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Jonathan Ibhamawu .
The Majority Leader alleged that the President of the NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero, had plans to effect a leadership change on the Edo State Chapter of the NLC , an action he warned, could cause labour unrest in the state.
He warned that if the National President was not stopped from going ahead with this alleged plans, the state might be embroiled in an industrial crisis as the workforce in the state was going about their duties in peace and harmony.
Other Lawmakers who supported the motion included Hon. Adeh Isibor, who likened the NLC National President’s alleged actions to Politicizing the labour union.
He went down memory lane tracing the growth of the NLC from its inception in the 70’s till now, stressing that the leadership is devoid of the resilience of former Presidents who did not play politics with the Union.
Hon. Edobor Uzamere also spoke in the same vein, calling on the National President to allow peace continue to reign in the NLC in the state.
Summing up the debate , the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chief Blessing Sheriff Agbebaku, called on the State Government and other agencies to only recognize the leadership of Comrade Bernard Egwakhide till the expiration of their tenure in office.
He, However, directed the Clerk, Alhaji Yahaya Audu Omogbai, to make clean copies of the resolution available to relevant authorities for necessary action.
Also at Plenary, the House passed a bill for a Law to Establish the Edo State Parks and Gardens Agency and for other matters connected therewith, 2025.
The passage of the Bill was after a part -by -part consideration at the Committee of the Whole, the Speaker directed the Clerk, Alhaji Yahaya Audu Omogbai, to make clean copies of the Bill available to the Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for his assent.
Also today, the Speaker Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, committed a petition to the House Committee on Public Petitions.
The petition, titled the reawakening of CDAs and the debilitating effects of such against achieving sustainable development in Edo State, was signed by several Civil Society Groups led by Comrade Kola Edokpayi.
The House, thereafter, adjourned sitting to Wednesday, August 27, 2025 after an adjournment motion moved by Hon. Frank Uyi Omosigho and Seconded by Hon. Abdul Ganiyu Akokhia.
