The Delta State Government has retired about 489 of its employees in what is perceived as a major weight shed.
The retirements took effect from October 31, 2025, according to a statement to this effect by the Office of the Head of the State Civil Service.
The tranche of retirements is the second this year by the government which is seeking to wean the service of impropriety.
Like in the first batch, those axed in the current tranche were said to have presented fake documents during the screening leading up to the retirements.
Many were disengaged for being overaged, going by the assessment of their documents by the state Civil Service Commission which carried out the frisking on behalf of the state government .
The release, today, by the Office of the Head of the State Civil Service showed that those axed include medical doctors, nurses, school heads, and at least one General Manager.
A breakdown of the data showed that the the Delta State Civil Service topped the list of casualties with 153 persons, followed by the Post -Primary Education Board (PPEB), with 133 cases and the Hospitals Management Board (HMB) with 84 casualties.
The Delta State University Teaching Hospital,DELSUTH, has 13, one more than the Institute of Continuing Education (ICE), with 12: the Judiciary, 6: Delta Broadcasting Services(DBS) and the Delta Printing and Publishing Corporation (DPPC) with five each, same as the Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA), while the Asaba Specialist Hospital has three casualties, the same tally with the Delta Development and Property Authority.(DDPA).
The Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) , the Delta State Direct Labour Agency (DLA) and the Office of the Auditor- General ( Local Government) have five cases each, while the Delta State Sanitation and Waste Management Board and the Delta State Traffic Management Agency have three and 11 cases respectively.
Other boards, commissions and agencies affected are the Delta State Sports Commission, 11; the Delta State Agricultural and Rural Development Agency,4; the Delta State Agricultural Procurement Agency,2; the Delta State Library Board,one, same as the Delta Tourism Board , the Delta State Council for Arts and Culture and the Delta State Rural Water Supply Agency.
The Delta State Urban Water Board has 14 casualties.
