The Delta State Government has dismissed as baseless and misleading, claims by a group, The Committee for Transparency and Good Governance (CTGG), alleging that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori betrayed the Urhobo Nation over the award of pipeline surveillance contracts.
In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Festus Ahon, the government clarified that Governor Oborevwori has no role whatsoever in the award or renewal of pipeline surveillance contracts, stressing that such responsibility lies exclusively with the Federal Government and its relevant agencies.
According to the statement, dragging the Governor into a matter clearly outside his constitutional mandate was “mischievous, misleading, and designed to incite the good people of Delta State, particularly the Urhobo Nation, against their performing Governor.”
Ahon described as false and irresponsible, the claims that the Governor was working against Urhobo interests, noting that Oborevwori, as a proud son of Urhobo land, had consistently demonstrated his commitment to the sustainable progress of both Delta State and the Urhobo Nation through policies, programmes, and projects under his administration’s MORE Agenda.
Reaffirming the Governor’s commitment to inclusive governance, Ahon stressed that Oborevwori would not be distracted by “baseless propaganda and politically-motivated blackmail, being orchestrated by political enemies and haters,” but would continue to deliver good governance anchored on fairness, equity and progress for all Deltans.
