A Customs officer, identified as Assistant Superintendent of Customs (ASC) Lawal Tukur, was found dead in a hotel room in Katsina metropolis on Tuesday morning.
According to reports, the incident occurred at Murjani Hotel, where Tukur had allegedly checked in the previous night. His body was discovered by hotel staff around 8:30 a.m. on October 15, who immediately alerted the authorities.
Sources said empty sachets of unidentified substances were found in a waste basket inside the room.
Three women — Khadija Ali (34) of Dutsin Amare Quarters, Katsina; Aisha Lawal (30) of Ingawa Local Government Area; and Hafsat Yusuf (22) of Brigade Quarters, Kano — were reportedly with the officer at the hotel during the incident.
It was gathered that Khadija and Aisha spent the night with the deceased, while Hafsat joined them later and also lodged at the hotel.
The officer’s body was later taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Katsina, where doctors confirmed him dead before it was deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has been notified of the development, while police investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the officer’s death.
