In tonight’s tie of sheer magic , Chelsea Football Club of England overwhelmed favourite, Paris Saint Germain, PSG, of France to win the diadem of the FIFA Club World Cup championship in America.
And they did it with precision and in style, much against the book markers’ prediction of a PSG win.
By the time the curtain fell on the game, Chelsea had recorded not one or two but three unreplied goals against underwhelming PSG.
The significance of the game and its outcome was not only that Chelsea deserved to win on the night but they did so in style by keeping a clean sheet against an unimpressive PSG.
Man -of- the -match, Cole Palmer, deployed his deft left foot to drive home a piler in the 21st minute of play to hand Chelsea the lead after dominating play in the first quarter of an hour of play.
The goal was the tonic Chelsea needed to consolidate their dominance, and it was no surprise when, in the 30 th minute of play, indomitable Cole Palmer struck again with his left foot to net the second .
In the 43rd minute, Joao Pedro added his name to the scorers’ tally with a volley that earned Chelsea their third and last goal of the game.
In the second half, both teams exchanged pressures but PSG were unlucky not to have netted twice in the first 8 minutes of that stanza.
Afterwards, the game became a ding dong until in the 84 th minute when Joao Neves was red carded for pulling the hair of Chelsea defender, Cucurella.
PSG were aiming for a quadruple in tonight’s encounter after winning the French League, the Champions League and the Cup Winners’, but fell short on the night.
PSG was formed in 1970, while Chelsea is 120 years old, having been formed in 1905.
By tonight’s victory, Chelsea earned a prize of $40 million ( about N6.2 billion), while PSG got $30 million ( about N4.6 billion).
