The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has declared an indefinite nationwide strike beginning at midnight on Saturday, November 1, 2025.
The announcement was made by NARD President, Dr. Muhammad Usman Suleiman, after the association’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Friday. Suleiman said the decision followed the federal government’s continued failure to meet the doctors’ long-standing demands.
“In light of the government’s unresponsiveness, the NEC has resolved that all resident doctors in federal and state tertiary health institutions nationwide should withdraw their services completely and indefinitely,” he said.
He noted that this would be NARD’s first total strike in three years, stressing that the association had exhausted all dialogue options with the Tinubu administration.
Appealing to President Bola Tinubu for urgent intervention, Suleiman said, “We are not asking for new things. These are agreed entitlements — our salaries and allowances. Mr. President, please use your goodwill to resolve this issue and save the healthcare system from collapse.”
Suleiman urged all members to ensure total compliance and unity as the association embarks on what he called a “decisive course.”
