Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Peter Rufai has died, according to Radio Nigeria. Though the family is yet to release an official statement, the news has shaken Nigeria’s football community, with tributes pouring in for the legendary shot-stopper.
Rufai, famously known as Dodomayana, was Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper during the 1994 AFCON victory and featured at the 1994 and 1998 FIFA World Cups. He earned over 60 caps for the national team and played for clubs across Europe.
Beyond his football career, Rufai was known for youth mentoring through his Staruf Academy and his advocacy for education. He was the son of a Lagos traditional ruler and respected for his leadership and professionalism.
