Winnie Akondu Walter, a 13-year-old student of F & T Best International School, Abuja, is not only excelling in academics but also inspiring her peers with a rare blend of talent, discipline, and vision.
Born on February 27, 2012, and hails from Benue State, 13-year-old Winnie recently made headlines for her exceptional performance in the 2025 NECO Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). Her results were nothing short of stellar, A’s in English Studies, Mathematics, French Language, Cultural & Creative Arts, Pre-Vocational Studies, National Values, and History; strong B’s in Business Studies, Christian Religious Knowledge, and Basic Science & Technology; and a respectable C in Hausa–L2.
This achievement didn’t happen overnight. Walter has been a consistent high performer, earning the Best Graduating Mathematics Student Award for two consecutive sessions (2023/2024 and 2024/2025). Her creativity also shines, as she was named Artist of the Year in 2023/2024.
But Winnie’s brilliance extends far beyond exam halls. Her leadership journey began early, serving as the Minister of Health in 2022/2023, where she promoted hygiene and wellness among students. She later became Minister of Social Affairs for two consecutive sessions (2023/2024 and 2024/2025), spearheading initiatives that fostered unity, inclusivity, and student engagement.
Teachers describe her as “a natural leader who inspires others through her actions,” while classmates admire her ability to balance her studies, responsibilities, and creative pursuits.
Winnie’s ultimate goal is to become a medical doctor, a dream rooted in compassion. “I want to help people live healthier lives and bring hope to those in pain,” she says with the calm confidence of someone who knows exactly where she’s headed.
