Former Vice President of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has announced that he will formally join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Monday in his hometown of Jada, Jada Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
Atiku disclosed this on Sunday while inspecting a newly opened ADC office established by the Frontier Movement for his political mobilisation across the 774 Local Government Areas of the country. The inspection took place in Jimeta, Yola North Local Government Area.
He explained that although he has long associated with the ADC through the Frontier Movement, he has not been a registered member. His formal registration in Jada, he said, will officially confirm him as a bonafide member of the party.
Atiku further revealed that the Adamawa State Chairman of the ADC, Comrade Shehu Yohanna, alongside other party officials, will accompany him to his ward on Monday for the registration exercise.
According to him, Nigeria needs “a new movement and a new party” to rescue the country from its current state. The former Vice President spoke passionately about the vision of the ADC Frontier Movement, which has been registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission since 2003.
Addressing a large crowd during the inaugural inspection of the ADC Frontier campaign office, Atiku asked whether they wanted him in the party, to which the crowd responded unanimously: “We need you; you are the one to rescue this nation.”
“All this while I have not been a member of the ADC, but God willing, tomorrow (Monday) I will formally join the party,” he declared.
The National Coordinator of the Frontier Movement, Arch. Adamu Hussyne, reaffirmed the group’s readiness to mobilize nationwide support for Atiku, stating that structures have already been positioned across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Atiku, the Wazirin Adamawa, has been in Yola for his annual engagements, including meetings with officials of the American University of Nigeria (AUN) ahead of the institution’s new academic year.
