The family of former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Solomon Ehigiator Arase, has formally confirmed his passing.
In a statement signed on Sunday, August 31, 2025, by his son, Solomon Arase Jnr., the family announced that the erstwhile police boss died at Cedarcrest Hospital, Abuja, after a brief illness. He was aged 69.
“The Arase family of Benin-City, Edo State, hereby announces the passage of Solomon Ehigiator Arase, PhD., CFR, NPM, FDC, Former Inspector General of Police. He passed on at about 9 a.m. on Sunday 31st August, 2025, at the Cedarcrest Hospital, Abuja, after a brief illness,” the statement read in part.
Following the announcement, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, led a delegation of senior police officers to the Abuja residence of the late IGP to commiserate with the bereaved family.
Dr. Arase, who served meritoriously as Nigeria’s 18th Inspector-General of Police, later became Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC). He was also a member of the Body of Benchers.
The family has appealed for prayers and support as burial arrangements will be announced in due course.
