The newly appointed Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, is scheduled to officially assume office on Thursday, October 23, 2025.
According to an invitation issued by the Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Victoria Eta-Messi, the new chairman will hold a meeting with directors of the commission at the INEC headquarters in Abuja on Thursday.
Before assuming duties, Prof. Amupitan will be sworn in by President Bola Tinubu during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.
Amupitan, aged 58, is a Professor of Law at the University of Jos and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN). He was confirmed as INEC Chairman by the Senate last Thursday following a voice vote presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
