US President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Hamas, saying the group will face “severe consequences” if it fails to accept his recently unveiled Gaza peace deal within the next few days.
Speaking to US generals and admirals in Quantico, Virginia, Trump declared: “We have one signature that we need, and that signature will pay in hell if they don’t sign. I hope they sign for their own good and create something really great.”
The president, who unveiled the plan earlier this week, told reporters that he was giving Hamas “three or four days” to respond to the proposal.
The US-backed deal includes:
- An immediate ceasefire.
- The release of hostages by Hamas within 72 hours.
- The disarmament of Hamas.
- A gradual Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.
- The creation of a post-war transitional authority headed by Trump himself.
The proposal also stipulates that Hamas militants will be barred from participating in future governments, although those who agree to “peaceful co-existence” would be granted amnesty.
World powers, including Arab and Muslim nations, have welcomed the plan. However, Hamas has not yet formally issued a response.
