…Party Embraces Technocratic Leadership and Religious Balance
Dr. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, has been appointed the new National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). His emergence follows the resignation of former chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who stepped down citing health reasons.
Yilwatda’s appointment was ratified on the eve of Thursday’s crucial National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, after high-level consultations at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa involving President Bola Tinubu, the Progressive Governors Forum, and key party stakeholders.
Sources within the APC’s National Working Committee (NWC) described Yilwatda’s selection as a shift towards merit-based and inclusive leadership. His technocratic background and Christian faith are seen as strategic moves to promote professional competence and religious diversity at the apex of the party’s hierarchy.
A former gubernatorial candidate in Plateau State (2023), Dr. Yilwatda is widely respected for his administrative capability and professional accomplishments. He was born on August 8, 1968, in Dungung, Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau State, to the family of the late Reverend and Mrs. Toma Yilwatda.
A seasoned engineer, he is affiliated with several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), and the Solar Society of Nigeria.
Dr. Yilwatda’s rise signals a new phase in the APC’s leadership evolution, as the party seeks to reposition itself ahead of future political challenges. Party insiders express optimism that his calm demeanor, technical expertise, and inclusive worldview will foster unity, innovation, and stability within the ruling party.
