The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the upcoming Anambra State election, Chief Jude Ezenwafor, narrowly escaped death after being shot by suspected gunmen in Abuja.
The attack occurred late Friday night around the Wuse 2 area as Chief Ezenwafor was returning home from an appointment. The assailants opened fire on his vehicle, injuring him and two others in the process.
The PDP candidate is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Abuja, where he is scheduled to undergo surgery to extract bullets lodged in his body.
Speaking from his hospital bed in a faint voice, Ezenwafor described the incident as a “near-death experience.”
> “I’m currently in the hospital. The doctors are making efforts to operate on me so they can pull out bullets from my body,” he said, still in severe pain.
Hospital sources confirmed that the injuries sustained by Chief Ezenwafor and his aides are critical but not life-threatening. Security agencies have yet to issue an official statement, but a source close to the candidate described the attack as “clearly targeted and politically motivated.”
Chief Jude Ezenwafor, a prominent political figure and former aide to the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, was recently announced as the PDP flagbearer for the November Anambra governorship poll.
This incident adds to growing concerns about the rising tide of political violence ahead of the 2025 general elections.
