A senior lecturer at Kogi State University, Anyigba, Dr. Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle, has died during an alleged sexual encounter with a 22-year-old, 200-level student of the institution.
The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at a hotel in Anyigba. It was later brought to the attention of the police by the hotel manager.
The student, identified as Gloria Samuel, has since been taken into custody and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the Kogi State Police Command, SP William Ovye Aya, described the case as unfortunate, noting that an autopsy had already been conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
According to the police, the hotel manager, Moses Friday, reported that the student had rushed to the reception area to seek help, stating that the lecturer had collapsed after their private engagement.
Emergency services were called, and Dr. Ibikunle was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
The deceased lecturer, who was said to be married with children, had checked into the hotel earlier in the day with the student, who is reportedly from the Department of Social Studies Education.
There are unverified claims that the lecturer had consumed several energy drinks prior to the incident.
The police stated that investigations are ongoing, and further actions will be determined based on the outcome of the findings.
