The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has passed away at the age of 90, just two days after marking his milestone birthday.
The revered monarch, who ascended the throne in July 2024, died in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025, after serving as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland for one year.
Born on July 5, 1935, Oba Olakulehin was officially presented with the staff of office by Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, on July 12, 2024. He succeeded the late Oba (Dr.) Moshood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, who passed on March 14, 2024, at the age of 81.
Oba Olakulehin rose to the throne from the Balogun Olubadan line in keeping with the city’s traditional succession system. His passing marks the end of a significant chapter in the history of Ibadanland.
