Former Governor of Benue State, Senator Gabriel Suswam has stated that he may leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) soon, if the internal crisis within the party are not resolved.
Suswam who previously served two terms and later as a senator under the PDP, said he is considering moving to another political party.
Suswam’s remarks come in the wake of renewed tensions in the PDP following the reinstatement of Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s national secretary.
However, the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) has expressed dissatisfaction with the development, criticizing Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum for reinstating Anyanwu without broader consensus.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the NWC accused Damagum of making pronouncements and taking actions that allegedly undermine the party’s constitutionally recognized structures.
This development has further deepened the internal divisions within the PDP, with leaders split over the direction and leadership of the party.
Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Suswam said he is growing weary of the prolonged internal crisis.
Asked if he plans to leave the PDP, he responded, “There’s a possibility that I will.”
He added that he is open to joining other political platforms, mentioning the Labour Party and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) as possible options. “Kwankwaso is a colleague and a friend. So, there are lots of alternatives. There is a possibility that I will; there are so many alternatives. There is Labour Party, there’s Alliance for Democracy, there’s NNPP by Kwankwaso,” he said.
When asked whether he would consider joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Suswam said he would not rule it out, stating, “APC can be an alternative.”
